Ocean Visions is pleased to announce a $1.5 million funding opportunity to develop an Environmental Impact Assessment Framework for marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) technologies.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change underscores the urgent need for large-scale carbon dioxide removal (CDR) to achieve climate targets. mCDR may be able to play a significant role, however, society does not yet have nearly enough information about the effectiveness or impacts of mCDR technologies to make informed decisions about their potential use at scale. Responsible research, including field testing, must accelerate to answer critical questions about mCDR technologies, including their impacts on marine ecosystems and communities that rely on them.
To address this challenge and aid in decision making on mCDR operations, Ocean Visions seeks proposals to develop a comprehensive mCDR Environmental Impact Assessment Framework that can provide a standardized approach to assessing the environmental impacts of mCDR activities. The award is up to $1.5 million dollars for a period of up to 24 months.
Application Deadline: Pre-proposals are due by 16 October 2024 21:00 GMT.
