The main mission of our center has been to carry out studies and related research for recommending the reestablishment location of the Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL). Over the past decades, research by the Center has developed and continually improved the reliability and accuracy of the numerical models` predictions of storm tide and the corresponding beach-dune erosion. The CCCL for twenty-four coastal counties with sandy beaches have been reestablished. The center continues to provide the FDEP with the most up-to-date coastal engineering information and to assist in the coastal building codes implementations. Additional studies such as Beach Nourishments, Beach and Inlet Managements, High-Frequency Storm Erosion Model Studies, and Shoreline Data Base Development and Analysis have been sponsored by the FDEP, to assist the State Coastal Engineers in management of beach resources.
The Florida Climate Institute (FCI) is a multi-disciplinary network of national and international research and public organizations, scientists, and individuals concerned with achieving a better understanding of climate variability and change.
